Cultural events, adventure sports at Nainital Winter Carnival
The seven-day Nainital Winter Carnival, which will see a slew of cultural performances and adventure activities and competitions, will kick off on Friday.
The event, which wraps up on December 31, will be inaugurated by Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat. Among the highlights of the carnival is a performance by Bollywood singer Shalmali Kholgade of ‘Balam Pichkari’ fame, slated for December 26.
The festival will witness musical, dance and other cultural performances and contests, as well as a string of activities. These include boating, trekking, paragliding, a photography contest, a mountain biking race and a roller skating show. Enthusiasts have already started registering for the various activities.
The district administration is working to ensure the events go off without a hitch. Nainital district magistrate Deepak Rawat, who is closely involved in the organization of the festival, said, “This initiative has been planned for the benefit of the public and for the good of Nainital too. Such events bring people together and also help promote the hill station.” The DM has been inspecting venues of the various activities and also held meetings to oversee the organization of the event. The cultural events will be held during the first three days of the carnival. These will include pop and folk music performances by artists from across the country. A musical contest, ‘War of Band‘, will kick-start the cultural activities at 11 am on Friday.
Musical performance will be held on the night of December 26. This will include a performance by Pawandeep Rajan, winner of singing reality show Voice of India.
